MacDev is one of the longest running paintball companies in the industry. They were making paintball markers before Planet Eclipse released their original Ego. In recent years some self-inflicted wounds have caused their popularity to drop in North America, but it really looks like they are righting the ship!

All signs point to yes

Though some of their previous markers like the XTS and GT2 were generally well received, the GTX has been released with overwhelmingly positive reviews. Driven by this and a strong social media presence the first run of the GTX has nearly sold out in Canada. Their Canadian distributor WC Marker said on their Facebook page on March 24th 2025 “Turns out demand was greater than expected and if honest I’m not surprised at all. Once you get it in your hands you will understand why the GTX is THE marker for 2025 and beyond”. They plan to have more in stock shortly.

Back on the (road) map!

MacDev is also making some strides in increasing their presence and availability in North America. The aforementioned WC Marker is their distributor in Canada, but in the USA there have been multiple retailers announced as well as more support and technicians across the board.

Another positive sign is MacDev’s transparency regarding resolving issues and their upcoming product releases. Though the GTX has been positively received it is a brand new release and has some minor issues that needed to be addressed. In a recent announcement MacDev has put forward a planned release of updated parts and updates available later this month. A fix this quickly after its release is welcome to see. Other markers like the Dye MXR have had similar fixes released lately, so it is great to see how fast MacDev is responding to issues and criticism.

What’s next?

Their road map is not just updates for current markers. At the moment it has only been teased, but it is looking like MacDev has two new markers in the works. In June a new Droid will be introduced, likey a mid end replacement for the XDR. There is also a mystery marker being announced in May targeting field owners. It has been confirmed that whatever this marker is, it will also be available to the general public.

Setting aside markers for the moment, it also looks like we may see the release of an air system. It is not clear if this will just be a regulator or a bottle as well, MacDev has a history in the regulator market with their Gladiator and Conquest products. With the seemingly confirmed departure from Ninja this is a perfect time for companies to fill the gaps in the market that they will be leaving.

Strong start, now stick the landing

With some strong current and upcoming releases, better availability of tech support, and a strong media presence, MacDev has set themselves up for a major comeback in the North American market. It really does seem like they may have really righted the ship. Time will tell but I for one am happy to see more serious competition in what is looking like the low, mid, and high end of the market.
